Better than a coupon! For the past few years I have had a love/hate relationship with my Swiffer. I love the ease of use and that there is no nasty bucket of water needed. However I cringed every time I had to buy a refill bottle for my Swiffer. I had already made my own Swiffer pads using Terry cloth, batting and velcro so I had eliminated the need to buy those. (If you are sewing challenged you can purchase these at Etsy.com). Even though the reusable pads had saved me a lot of money I will still spending ridiculous amounts on the refill bottles. I dreamed of finding a better solution. (and by better I mean cheaper!)
Alas! I have finally found a way to remove those pesky lids so that you can reuse the Swiffer bottle using your own choice of cleaner! All you need is an empty Swiffer bottle, a small pot, some water a dish towel and fingernail clippers. Fill the pot with about 2 inches of water, just enough to cover the lid on the Swiffer bottle. Bring the water to a boil. Once the water has reached a boil turn off the heat and hold the Swiffer bottle upside down for 90 seconds. After 90 seconds remove the bottle from the water and use a towel to twist off the lid. Now that you have the lid off notice the little teeth inside the lid. (These are the evil little teeth that have cost me so much money over the years, off with their heads!) Anyway simply take your fingernail clippers and cut the little teeth off. Voila, you can now remove the lid from your Swiffer anytime you need a refill! No more tossing those bottles in the garbage and harming our environment. You can be green while saving lots of green!
